Truog Soil Science Outstanding Dissertation Award


 

The Truog Soil Science Outstanding Dissertation Award is designed to recognize a recent Ph.D. degree recipient who has made an outstanding contribution to soil science as evidenced by his/her Ph.D. thesis or dissertation. This award is supported through funds from the Emil Truog estate. The award consists of a certificate, a complimentary ticket to the award ceremony, and $3,000.

Nominator

  1. Members of this SSSA Awards Committee, the SSSA Board of Directors, and also the ASA Executive Committee are not eligible to be a nominator for this award.

Nominee

  1. Former recipients of this Award are not eligible.
  2. Those individuals who received their Ph.D. degree in 2016 are eligible for the 2017 award. Each department that has given a Ph.D. degree in one of the areas usually designated as soil science may submit one nomination, unless it granted more than eight Ph.D.s, in which case it may nominate two candidates. The Award Committee will make the final determination whether a thesis or dissertation qualifies under the term "soil science" as in cases in which the thesis or dissertation may be in soil bacteriology, soil chemistry, soil geography, etc. The committee may request a copy of the complete thesis or dissertation.
  3. Nominees must be living at the time of their nomination.
  4. Members of this SSSA Awards Committee, the SSSA Board of Directors, and also the ASA Executive Committee are not eligible to be a nominee for this award.
