Trump withdraws U.S. from Paris climate agreement
June 01, 2017
President Trump announced on June 1 that he will withdraw the United States from participation in the Paris climate accord, but he will stick to the withdrawal process laid out in the Paris agreement. That could take nearly four years to complete, meaning a final decision would be up to the American voters in the next presidential election. Since the announcement, however, many states, cities, and companies have stated that they will continue on the path towards meeting the goals set in the Paris agreement, even without the U.S. as a signatory.
