As appropriators are finalizing their funding priorities and developing their bills for fiscal year 2017, ASA, CSSA and SSSA have signed-on to several additional funding request letters in support of federal research programs. The Friends of Agriculture Research Service Coalition is requesting $1.16 billion for the USDA Agricultural Research Service (ARS). The letter emphasizes the role ARS plays in partnering with the universities and industry to advance science and address emerging issues. For the National Science Foundation, the Coalition for National Science Funding submitted a letter requesting $8 billion for NSF, matching the President’s request. A group of Geoscience organizations, which includes SSSA, submitted also letters emphasizing the importance of geoscience research and requesting full funding for the NSF GEO Directorate portfolio.
