Societies applaud Senate R&D authorization bill
July 06, 2016
ASA, CSSA and SSSA signed on to a letter with more than 100 other scientific societies and organizations applauding the introduction of the American Innovation and Competitiveness Act. The bill is the newest version of the America COMPETES Act which authorizes the National Science Foundation (NSF) and the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) and programs within the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy (OSTP). The letter expressed appreciation for the proposed 4% budget increase for NSF, but asked the Senate to consider a longer authorization period that sets more aspirational funding targets.
