Obama officially signs U.S. onto Paris Climate Agreement

President Obama joined the agreement alongside Chinese President Xi Jinping bringing his country onboard during the G20 summit in China. The joint action continues recent coordinated activities on climate policy by the two largest global emitters. The deal officially takes effect once 55 nations representing 55 percent of global greenhouse gas emissions join; together the US and China account for 38 percent of global emissions. Advocates are hoping the deal reaches the 55-55 requirement before the end of the year to ensure it is in effect before the next US President takes office.
